Layered Vintage is in Aus!

Isn't it always the best day when you get to meet your Insta friends in real life!?

I first met Jill from Layered Vintage when I featured one of her images as our Jumbled Insta Find. She messaged me to thank me and we hit it off instantly, so you could imagine my excitement when Jill announced she would be flying out from the US to run a two-day workshop in the Gold Coast hinterland in July!

Trade Fair: It's a Wrap!

The annual Trade Fair in Melbourne is a wonderful boutique event showcasing emerging trends, brands and products that are on the cooler side of style and design! I literally walked for 5 days straight to hunt down the cream of the products and I am super pumped about what we have coming in store. Here is a little wrap up and review of what I saw (and my favourites).

Bringing the outdoors inside - succulent prints from Middle of Nowhere and new potted fake succulents that look so real it's crazy.

Lighting, cement and copper pendants from Indigo Love Collectors were the most exciting product at the fair for me. Also, bright wire lights from General Eclectic to mix and match with different coloured flex cords. There were some beautiful bedside lamps which will be on their way soon. Marquee lights for the wall and industrial lights. The anchor light sure got a lot of LOVE on our Instagram and will be in store soon!

Copper still seems to be the metal of choice - you will see it in lighting, coffee tables, artworks canisters. Watch this space.

Rugs - rag rugs in some new sizes, the durry rugs will be back and still the super fab price of $39.95. I found a new amazing rag rug in a geometric pattern, which should arrive soon.

Art, Ferwerda Art by Antoinette Murray. We managed to secure this artist and cannot wait for her pieces to arrive. Seriously talented.

Books, I'm most excited about The Whole Pantry by the inspiring Belle Gibson and Jason Grant's newest book. We also have books on gardening, craft, food and design.... all coming in soon. They really do make the most fab Christmas present! (aghhhh can't believe we are already talking about Christmas)!

Loads of great gift ideas for Christmas will be arriving daily from General Eclectic, Me and My Trend and our newest brand Habitat home that specializes in our fav thing....colour!

Follow us on Instagram or Facebook to stay up to date with daily arrivals.

Love Pip x

D.I.Y Geometric Wall

Some of you may know I also own a clothing store called IGLOU. We recently moved the shop in Orange to a new location which gave me the opportunity to experiment with some D.I.Y projects.

Top of my list was painting a wall in a colourful geometric pattern. I had been seeing clever ideas on Pinterest and I've attached some of the images that inspired me. I always say that painting a wall is a quick and affordable way to change the feel of a space and if you don't like it you can always paint over it! Scroll down for my step by step guide.

Before I started I knew I had to clean the walls. I discovered this amazing product - sugar soap wipes - just like baby wipes but for cleaning the walls. They worked a treat and had the walls prepped for painting in no time.

It was a little tricky getting my head around the angles and the maths! They are all right angles! I started with an image of a geometric pattern I liked and then I roped in my handy husband; armed with his tape measure and spirit level, to draw the lines on the wall.

I then carefully stuck on the painters tape - which is the fantastic tape you can paint over and later peel off to reveal crisp straight lines. I placed my tape just next to my pencil lines so the paint would cover the pencil lines and I wouldn't have to erase them later.

I painted one colour at a time, following the picture and plan I had created prior to starting. I started with darker tones in one corner, blues and greens and then moved to pinks and peachy tones in the opposite corner.

The wall with the painters tape still attached. I was taking very deep breaths here, petrified I may rip off half the paint with the tape - but it all worked perfectly!

I actually found the painting quite relaxing!

My first look at the wall after taking the tape off.

I then decided to continue the pattern onto the next wall and it really works

After finishing we added some faux floral installations and the two complemented each other so perfectly.

Workshop: Mikarla Bauer

One word to describe the two floral workshops hosted by Mikarla Bauer is AMAZING! What an inspiring, fun, totally cool and charismatic lady. Everyone was completley blown away by her natural manner, knowledge and ability to convey her floral techniques to us (non-floral) people.

Colour Series - Green

Green is probably my favourite colour (just quietly)! It is the colour of nature, its fresh and it is a little bit risky! Especially in Interiors. Be brave, it can seem daunting but it will make your space seem alive, cozy and eye catching. Enjoy!

Colour Series - Coral

Next up in our colour series is coral. We love the soft tones of peach, apricot and pastel pinks. You can use this colour on walls, floors, the outside of a building or in the smaller details of your house. Enjoy.
