Wonder Walls!

Geraldine James, says in her book Creative Display, "If you love something enough, show the world how much by displaying it for all the world to see."  We are big believers in mixing textures and materials on walls and love spaces that show the personality of their creator. It's great if you are a well travelled person and have carefully selected items from around the world that tell a story. It is just as wonderful if you see something cute at your local shops and love it enough to add to your personal collection.

The key is to love your stuff. Wonder Walls by Sarah Bagnerakes makes sence of the trend, "Whatever your taste, it's about celebrating the unusual, the beautiful, the eccentric, and the simple."  We love rugs on walls, vintage dresses, retro prints and original abtracts. Artwork that grabs your eye and you feel continually compelled to look at is what you should look for. And then complement with bits and pieces from your home. Kids artwork, a favourite tea towel, or your wedding veil. These are all things that will make your walls gorgeous and personal.

Here are some fabulous walls we have found online and think they are perfect for inspiring us all to get creative with our decorating.

Decorating with Maps

Maps. Seriously do these ever trend? Surely not, however I guess recently we are having a love affair with the retro school maps. The vibrant greens and blues are so wonderful and there is something nostalgic about their scuffed edges and honey coloured wooden ends. I've heard a few teacher's say they remember a few years back when smart boards invaded the classrooms and all the old school maps were thrown on bonfires and destroyed (yes I joined in on the collective gasp of sadness). Now these maps are becoming as rare as hens teeth and collector items!

There are some brilliant 'new' maps that still have that old school feel, my personal favourite is the Blacklist Studio 'Take Me To South America' map. The colours are muted and calming and offer a real focus point and great conversation starter in any home.

Check out my ideas and inspiration on how to incorporate maps into your home and make them a decorating focal point.
