Wedding Trends

A trend we have seen floating around the wedding blogs lately is photographing the bottom half of people in the wedding party. This may sound unusual however, photographer Julia Archibald has absolutely nailed it! This photo of mix and match bridesmaid dresses and flowers is one of the most beautiful wedding photos we've ever seen. We also love the casual snap of the gents legs. Find all the wedding photos from this stunning wedding on Julia's website here.

Next trend is to create a jaw dropping back drop to use for photos. We have been seeing images with paper pom poms, amazing floral installations and a combo of flowers and an abstract canvas like the photo above. Find some more ideas on the Green Wedding Shoes blog here.

Also trending (much to our joy) is COLOUR! And lots of it! One of our favourite photographers Lara Hotz, photographed this stunning wedding for Hello May magazine and it is full of happiness and colour.

Another awesome trend is dessert tables! One of of favourite wedding blogs Simply Peachy has a whole pin board dedicated to them on pinterest, check it out here. I think any guest would be super happy to be greeted with a table full of sweet treats!

We love floral head pieces and they are such a great alternative to veils, if veils just aren't your thing. Another favourite wedding blog of ours is Nouba and they recently did a great piece on make up artist Erin Maie Latkovik (find it here). The makeup is stunning, however we couldn't help but fall in love with the above headpiece! Check out Nouba's pinboard on headpieces for more inspiration here.

Don't forget we have a great Wedding Registry service here at Jumbled. You can find some more info here or email shop@jumbledonline.com to start a coversation.

Workshop: Mikarla Bauer

One word to describe the two floral workshops hosted by Mikarla Bauer is AMAZING! What an inspiring, fun, totally cool and charismatic lady. Everyone was completley blown away by her natural manner, knowledge and ability to convey her floral techniques to us (non-floral) people.

Interview - Mikarla Bauer

We are extremely honoured and excited to have Mikarla Bauer conduct two separate workshops for Jumbled on February 22nd and 23rd. There is loads of information about the workshops so go on and click here to read more.

Mikarla has spent the last 10 years as a floral designer working for boutique florists in Sydney and Berlin. She is regarded as one of Sydney’s most exciting florists blending her own unique style and vision into each installation.

Mikarla strengths lay in clashing colour combinations, contrasting textures and the compulsive desire to search the markets, farms and the roadside for that special bloom her clients are lusting for.

How did you get into Floristry
I always wanted to be a florist, my grandmother Bobby was a florist. I helped her out in my school holidays as a kid. I studied interior design first not really knowing that I could have a career as a florist. Siting at a computer and looking at wallpaper swatches was not my idea of a rewarding job, so I approached a lovely flowers shop in Paddington and started an apprenticeship while studying floristry. Best move ever! I love my job.

Where do you find inspiration
I find inspiration in fashion, art, the countryside and my amazingly nutty friends and family. My girlfriends are a power house of creativity- architects, painters, photographers and artists . Laura Jones's bold floral paintings and Adriana Pickers delicate botanical ink drawings are really inspiring me at the moment. I'm also obsessed with Marimekko fabric and green italian glass. If I'm lacking inspiration I like to take a bush walk and peruse blogs like Saipua, Henry Hudson and the Design Sponge.

Describe the tablescape that you would create for Jumbled's next birthday party
I like lots of clashing colour and texture for a crazy party vibe. I would start by running a few sets of the bamboo nets bowl tightly down the centre of the table. Working with the vibrant colours of the bowls I would mass them with dahlias, garden roses, gardenias and mint. Really fragrant and summery. I love using tiny potted cactus at place settings, warped in neon tule. I have a bit of an accidental Mexican vibe going on in my head so I'd top it of with garlands of cumquat, mint and hot red dahlias strung in festoon lighting over the table.

Favourite flower
I could never pick just one but my top ten are; passionfruit flower, dogwood, lilac, Lilly of the valley, fritillary, anemone, geranium, camellia, cherry blossom and really fragrant garden roses.

Where would you hold your dream dinner party?
On the Greek island of Santorini. On a white washed terrace over looking the sea. Eating grilled fish and Saganaki cheese dripping with honey and oregano. I'd dress the table with a wrinkled white linen cloth and low gold bowls filled with pomegranates and red roses.

Best tip you could give about working with flowers.
Be kind to the flower growers and treat them with respect. They are some on the most amazing and hard working people you will ever meet. Take care of your body and hands. It a very physical job. Buck trends and go for flowers you are drawn to.

Blooming Marvellous!

We enjoyed the delights of florist Jane Lampe of Floreat Floral at last weekend's Jumbled Floral Styling Workshop. Jane worked her magic by showing us the ease and simplicity of flower arranging that is quite simple and nowhere near contrived.

By following a few simple design tips, we were all thrilled to see how ordinary blooms from the garden can be turned into stunning arrangements (even if we do say so ourselves!)

The favourite blossoms included the humble rosemary bush, along with crab apple branches and simple daisies. It seems that you don't have to spend a fortune to end up with a florist's touch in your home.

The food was delicious, the champagne and coffees delightful, but the warmest feedback came in terms of the lovely company we shared. Yes, it's true - girls really do love an excuse to get together.

The feedback from our guests included "I really enjoyed the workshop, especially the relaxed atmosphere and the delicious food and bubbles - such a great afternoon."

Fantastic Faux Flowers

We love faux flowers. They are bright, colourful and oh so easy to manage! The Jumbled florist has opened (well sort of) and it looks more like Spring for us than Autumn.
We are inspired by Abigail Ahern and her interiors when it comes to faux flowers. She makes it look effortless and fresh.. And it lasts!

Our range of flowers includes Orchids, Magnolias, Roses, Dahlia's and more. We love to mix and match - you can never go wrong! Shop flowers here.

Clockwise: Vase of Garden flowers in store at Jumbled available online here, flower arrangement from Once Wed, Abigail Ahern faux flower decoration, floral table setting from Fete Press.
