Meet Little Nicki
We sat down with Nicki for a quick chat - so make yourself a cuppa and get to know 'Little Nicki'!
How long have you been a stylist?
I've been either assisting or styling for probably ten years now.
What is your go to when styling a space?
I love working with things I already have and mixing with the odd new piece. I'm obsessed with art and am constantly coveting something new for my place. When styling, I work quite instinctively and love balancing shapes and colour.
When did you start painting?
I did a semester of painting at uni, but I would say I started painting a year and a half ago now. I was pregnant and miserable, so took a weekend course as a form of distraction and have never looked back!
Where do you find your inspiration?
I paint from my own styled images and generally am inspired by glimpses of magic in the everyday. Colours that look pretty together, afternoon light, shadows on the wall, balancing fruit totems - cheap thrills!
What does your average day look like?
My average day starts with a cup of coffee and then quickly turns into me being a servant for two tiny people from the moment I make eye contact with them. This spring I've taken to walking the promenade at the beach in the morning, which has been nice after months of isolation. When I'm home, if my space isn't in dire need of immediate tidying, I try to spend an hour or two painting during my baby's morning nap, while my bigger boy is at childcare. Other than that, the rest of the day is a whirlwind of baby cuddles, laundry, feeding us and life admin.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I don't get much spare time these days, but when I do, I find painting to be the most therapeutic and rewarding way to spend it. I also like to call home (to Canada) most days. And I love a hot bath! Oh, and Pinterest!
